DIGITAL VISION SURVEY RESULTS:

ADULT BASIC COMPUTER TRAINING AT CLEVELAND CTCs, 2003

Twenty-one Cleveland community technology centers responded to our online survey between November 11, when it was first posted, and December 10. (This includes the Cleveland School District Adult Ed training and testing center at Max Hayes High School.) Here's their distribution by City Council Ward:

We have more program details for nineteen of the twenty-one centers, accounting for 1348 trainees. Of these nineteen programs…

  • Only 2 charged any fee ($10 in both cases)
  • 13 issued certificates to graduates
  • 5 allowed graduates to receive a used computer, or some discount or subsidy toward acquiring a computer
  • Virtually all (18 or 19) included the following in their basic training: computing concepts, basic hardware, keyboard skills, mouse skills, Windows, word processing.
  • 14 included office applications other than word processing.
  • 12 included email; 14 included web browsing; 14 included web search.
  • 4 centers included other subject matter.

CLASSES AT CITY RECREATION CENTERS: Eight of the City’s twenty recreation centers offered adult basic computer classes in 2003, according to their posted schedules. According to Deputy Commissioner Jill Limmerman, a total of 60 adults registered for Windows classes during 2003, and 151 adults registered for Word classes.
